BENE OFFICE GUIDE - THE AGE OF FLEXIBILITY.

EVOLUTION AT WORK is Bene`s office guide, which reflects on new trends and developments, and takes them further. It is intended as a handbook to inspire new working environments and enable companies to find their own path towards a culture of collaboration.

EFFICIENCY AT EVERY LEVEL
Concentration & Reflection

Different departments have different requirements. Each area of expertise will need its own level of interaction, concentration and privacy. In the same way, some departments will need more shelving or storage room than others. It has been shown that inhouse processes improve considerably when each department has a tailormade working environment.

IDEAS GROW, WHEN THEY ARE SHARED
Collaboration & Interaction

To find shared solutions, you need to offer spaces that work with your group dynamics and motivated teams. That means people can collaborate in workshops, meet with colleagues for networking beyond their own departments, or even reflect on their last meeting when in the kitchen.

YOUR CONFERENCE COMPANY’S FACE
Communication & Image

The more professional and authentic your corporate image, the faster confidence in your company will grow. The atmosphere in the reception or hospitality areas, at discreet meetings in managerial offices, or presentations in the conference room leaves a vital impression on clients, partners and staff.

A - Concentration & Reflection

1- TEAM LEADERSHIP.
Leadership requires closeness to the team as well as discretion when dealing with individuals. A workspace that offers privacy, but is also directly integrated into the team area, makes both possible.

2- INDEPENDENT TASKS.
If you need to concentrate, you need quiet. Screened off workspaces enable you to achieve your aim without being disturbed.

3- COLLABORATIVE TASKS.
Teamwork spaces for 4–8 people. A nearby standing table or flipchart bring clarity to your work. Screened off to make sure that colleagues working nearby are not disturbed.

4- MIXED TASKS.
Workplace settings for both individual work and joint tasks. For teams that belong together, however different their tasks may be.

B - Collaboration & Interaction

1- OPEN COLLABORATION.
Settings with an open design and few individual spaces. Where groups of up to eight people can meet spontaneously. Usually not booked.

2- TOUCH DOWN.
Temporary workspaces with low to medium levels of privacy. Usually not booked.

3- QUIET AREA.
An enclosed quiet zone with temporary workplaces for individuals who want to focus 100% on their work. These zones have a code of conduct: no phones, skype calls or discussions. Individual workplaces are usually booked.

4- TIME OUT.
Open settings where you can relax during a break, often with drinks available. Not booked.

5- MEETING ROOM.
A closed room that allows for privacy and discretion. Best suited to arranged meetings between groups of people. Usually booked.

6- IDEA LAB.
Separate spaces for developing ideas. This spatial concept supports group dynamics with flexible furnishing as well as analogue and digital tools, such as the IDEA WALL. Usually booked.

7- BUSINESS BOX.
A closed room for privacy and discretion. Perfect for individuals who want to focus 100% on the task in hand. Usually booked.

C - Communication & Image

1- MANAGEMENT.
This is where the visions and passions of management are felt and experienced.

2- CONFERENCE.
Official events and representative spaces highlight skills and inspire confidence.

3- WELCOME.
Corporate culture is revealed as soon as you enter the reception. Here, you can ensure that your company comes across as friendly, authentic and respectful.

4- HOSPITALITY.
Hospitality is a personal gesture that shows the company’s appreciation of both visitors and staff.

THE FUTURE OF WORK

Digitalisation and big data are changing our society in ways that are difficult to comprehend fully. It is equally difficult to forecast what these continuing changes mean for the future of work. In the face of this, today it is more important than ever to consider the future and to be dynamically prepared to respond to new developments. Only in this way can we continue to be pro-active in helping companies adapt and stay fit for the new world. As a leading expert in the design and furnishing of modern offices and other working environments, we aim to be involved from the start in the changes that lie ahead, so that we can generate innovative concepts and solutions for our customers.

The Future of Work Report brings together opinions on the future of work from around 40 experts from established international companies and start-ups, as well as academics and consultants, and from the relevant literature.

The report explores four main topic areas – digital transformation, management culture, the meaning and purpose of work and cooperative work – and it examines current buzzwords such as robotics, self-organisation, artificial intelligence, the sharing economy, the Internet of Things, fluid leadership, virtual reality, 3D printing and clickworkers.

the future of work - people

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

There is a widely accepted hypothesis that the most successful businesses of the future will not be the companies with the best products, but those that generate the best data and as a result are able to offer the best services.

The young generation of “digital natives” is expected to create intuitive, forward-looking technologies, making increasing use of robotics and artificial intelligence. Robots will in future take over more and more routine functions in production areas, as well as administrative tasks.

The internet of things promises a world where not only smartphones and tablets, but also many other everyday items are connected to the internet, gathering and processing data. These “smart devices” will virtually lead a life of their own – programmed to provide unobtrusive assistance to us humans. Further development of technologies such as 3D printing, 3D projectors, 3D glasses etc. will change our everyday lives for ever.

LEADERSHIP

A study by the Zukunftsinstitut (Institute of the Future) found that 77 per cent of managers in Germany believe that there needs to be a paradigm shift in management culture. The networked economy functions not according to the traditional hierarchical models, but on the basis of cooperation, self-organisation and teamwork as equals.

Companies are not static entities, but function more like fluid systems – a characteristic that is often neglected. Not everything can be planned, because human interactions are subject to constant change. “Smart leaders” are those who understand the dynamics of this “co-evolution” and who support their colleagues’ learning and teamwork.

As work functions become more complex, management increasingly expects employees to take responsibility for their own actions. In an unpredictable global world, the old mechanisms of direction and supervision are no longer adequate. Like conductors or coaches, managers face the challenge of steering a team of colleagues towards the goal.

THE PURPOSE OF WORK

While the meaningful purpose of work is different for every individual, its significance continues to increase. Employee expectations of companies are increasingly differentiated, and the aspirations of the young and talented are growing. Work is not only expected to be fun, but also to serve a higher purpose. For employees as well as customers, the social and ecological sustainability of products and services is an increasingly decisive factor.

To earn the loyalty of tomorrow’s talent, companies have to offer more than just good salaries. Corporate culture and opportunities for personal development are key factors. A good work-life balance plays an increasingly significant role too.

OPEN COLLABORATION

Digitalisation and the globalisation of companies are leading to increasing de-personalisation. Yet experts agree that it is vital to have places where people, as social beings, can satisfy their need for human interaction. This is true within offices just as it is for customers needing a personal point of contact.

In the future, artificial intelligence will increasingly be used in almost all industries. Experts say it is particularly important to answer questions regarding the interface of people and machines as soon as possible.

Silicon Valley is a living example of how profitable it can be to cast aside any pretence of perfection and to involve customers in the development process at an early stage. The increasing openness of the innovative process makes it essential to accept input and know-how from external partners and experts.

PLAYGROUND  FOR INNOVATION.

The most exciting innovations develop in places where people have the freedom to think playfully. Defined areas in the office that inspire a lively group dynamic and offer a creative playground are becoming increasingly important. The challenge is to create a place that naturally compliments day-to-day working life –  culturally and spatially. Furniture that is as flexible and unfussy as the team itself can help to create such a space. This is where PIXEL comes in. These ingenious little boxes can be combined to create different pieces of furniture, be it storage containers, seating or a table – PIXEL is up for anything!

Build huge ideas with small boxes.

FRAME_S Boards add vertical work surfaces – digital or analogue – to PIXEL. There are two types to choose from: the T-Type with one frame and the H-Type with two frames. As a room divid-er on wheels, it can be easily moved to wherever you need it. And it pro-vides practical storage space for PIXELS.

Workshops in Workflow.

Particularly during workshops, it is often necessary to change the spatial environment several times a day. PIXEL enables you to quickly and easily reshape the spatial setting to meet your requirements. This is not only incredibly practical, but helps to clear the mind.

Ideas Workshop.

PIXEL brings a workshop feel to the IDEA LAB, energising the workplace with dynamism and a start-up-like mentality. It creates a space where you can think freely, where big ideas and successful business  models develop.
